Impact Data Converter privacy policy

This privacy policy describes how the Impact Data Converter web application (“the App”), created by Common Approach to Impact Measurement (“Common Approach”) handles your data. The App facilitates the transformation of data between JSON-LD format (“impact data capsule”) and spreadsheet formats, or from custom sources to JSON-LD (“impact data capsule”).

Common Approach to Impact Measurement may change or update this Impact Data Converter privacy policy from time to time without notice.

Common Approach to Impact Measurement takes the privacy of its community seriously and operates in compliance with Ontario’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Personal information collected

Common Approach collects users’ names, e-mail addresses, and organization names via a form in the App to better understand who is using the App and contribute to its continued development. We will not sell any information gathered via this form. This information will only be used to contact you if you agree to receive additional information from us. The information collected through the form is stored in Common Approach’s CRM and is not retained by the App.

The App may store a registered user’s e-mail address to send a secure login link to access the custom data conversion features.

In the event of a data breach affecting registered users’ personal information, Common Approach will notify affected users in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

Other information collected

The App may store a customized data transformation profile for registered users. A data transformation file contains metadata, such as file names and file structures, about data sources that will be used to create an output JSON-LD file. The data transformation file is only accessible to registered users through secure login.

The App does not store impact report data uploaded to the App, nor does it store the files created by the data conversion process and made available to the user for download. All data transmitted between the user’s browser and the App is protected using standard encryption (e.g., SSL/TLS). All data conversions occur in a private server instance that is only used for you, and is deleted when the app is closed. This ensures that your data remains under your control.

While the App purges your data from the server immediately after use, it is your responsibility to ensure the files you upload do not contain sensitive personal or private data, like personally identifiable information of clients, beneficiaries, or staff. Because the converter’s output is designed to be shared, we advise you to only include information that is appropriate for its intended audience.

Common Approach’s commitment to the ethical use of data

Common Approach values data privacy and recognizes the importance of organizations maintaining control of their own data. We are committed to providing tools that empower users to manage their information without compromising its security or privacy. This App is designed with a strong emphasis on client-side processing to uphold this commitment.

Third-party services

The server that hosts the App is located in Ontario, Canada. The App may utilize standard web technologies and libraries that are essential for its functionality. While these web libraries may be hosted internationally, the user’s impact data is processed only within their browser and on the Canadian server, and is never transmitted to these third-party library servers. We do not integrate with third-party services that would collect or store your data without your explicit consent.
